Fusion Core Lullabies
A downloadable game
Traverse hazardous, tenuous, and occupied space as a squadron of mech pilots struggling for justice, stability, or vengeance in unjust, inconceivable times.
// What You Need
To play, gather 1 GM and 2-5 players, writing utensils, and two different d6 for each player. Each d6 represents a different form. One of your d6 captures the drive of your PILOT; your other, different-looking d6 depicts the capability of your MECH. Roll them together at all times.
// Inspirations
I was watching Mobile Suit Gundam Wing when I was inspired to write this, but it also draws inspiration from the larger world of mech fiction like Pacific Rim, Voltron, even Power Rangers.
// Kaijus and Non-Humans
There are no formal rules (yet) in Fusion Core Lullabies for the weird, old, and unknown in the depths of space. That doesn't mean they aren't there, potentially hiding in the depths of your stories. A safe bet for now would be to give them [fortes and foibles] or [augments and limits] like any other NPC, and to size them at human, vehicle, mech, or starship scale for easy conceptualization. A good general advisement: more fortes or augments indicate greater capability, and greater resolve or durability signifies higher endurance.
// Becoming a Super-Robot
To develop something like a Megazord, your whole squadron should shun the prewritten hallmarks for the hallmark combined superform. Use a new MECH sheet to track your super-robot's many facets. ...Then tell me about how it went as soon as you can.
// Astrocarriers
If you want to design your astrocarrier together — a good idea if you plan to play your squadron for more than a few missions — I would recommend An Infinity of Ships by STATIONS as a good way to do it.
// Print and Fold Instructions
All documents are printer friendly. I found the following settings to be best for successful printing with my Brother MFC-L2710DW printer.
- Scale: none / fit to paper.
- Print double-sided.
- Flip on short edge.
Fusion Core Lullabies is laid out as a double gatefold pamphlet. To fold,
- Lay the printed page landscape on the table with the title and character sheets face-down.
- Fold Fusion Core Lullabies in half, left to right.
- Unfold.
- Fold the left edge into the center fold. You should see the MECH sheet.
- Fold the right edge into the center fold. You should see the PILOT sheet.
- Fold in half along the original fold.
Reference the pictures on this page if uncertain.
